In a significant development for the renewable energy landscape, VA Tech Wabag has announced the acquisition of a substantial order worth Rs 1000 crore from Indosol Solar Private Limited. This project marks a pivotal step towards ensuring water security for the burgeoning solar photovoltaic (PV) sector in India.

The order entails the Engineering Procurement (EP) scope of a 100 MLD Desalination Plant, which will play a crucial role in supporting Indosol Solar’s ambitious 10 GW integrated solar PV manufacturing unit located in Andhra Pradesh. The desalination plant will leverage advanced technologies designed for optimal energy efficiency and water production, crucial for the solar industry’s sustainable growth.

With a project timeline extending over 38 months for the construction phase, VA Tech Wabag will also oversee a 15-year Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to integrating water solutions with solar energy production, reflecting the industry’s evolving needs.

Saravanan Krishnan, Head of Desalination for the India Cluster at Wabag, expressed enthusiasm about this groundbreaking project. “This mega order signifies WABAG’s strategic entry into the Solar PV sector, a vital area for future development. Our technological expertise and competitive pricing allowed us to offer the most economical life-cycle cost of water to Indosol Solar,” he stated.

The initiative not only highlights the growing interdependence between water resources and renewable energy but also positions VA Tech Wabag as a leader in addressing the water demands associated with solar energy production. The company has established a robust reputation in the desalination sector, having built over 60 plants across 17 countries since 1995.

As India continues to bolster its renewable energy capacity, including surpassing 200 GW recently, partnerships like the one between VA Tech Wabag and Indosol Solar are crucial for driving sustainable solutions in the solar sector. This collaboration marks a promising future for the integration of water management and renewable energy, paving the way for a greener and more resource-efficient tomorrow.
